Chess for Everyone in the Foothills

The El Dorado Hills & Folsom Chess Club is a free, community-run chess group serving the greater Folsom and El Dorado Hills area along the Highway 50 corridor. We welcome players of every age and ability — from first-time learners to seasoned tournament competitors.

Every Wednesday evening, we set up boards at Econome Park for casual over-the-board (OTB) games. On any given night you'll find 3–4 boards going with players ranging from complete beginners to players rated 1600+. The atmosphere is relaxed, friendly, and focused on learning together.

We also run online tournaments through our Chess.com club — typically unrated events with 15-minute time controls, open to all members. It's a great way to stay sharp between Wednesday meetups.

What to Expect

Never been to the club? Here's everything you need to know before your first visit.

Just Show Up

No registration, no fees, no commitments. Arrive at Econome Park around 6 PM on any Wednesday and introduce yourself. Everyone is friendly and happy to see new faces.

Boards Provided

We have boards and pieces available. Feel free to bring your own set, a chess clock, or just yourself. We'll get you playing within minutes.

All Skill Levels

Our members range from complete beginners to experienced players rated 1600+. You'll always find someone at your level, and everyone loves sharing tips and analyzing positions together.

Learn & Improve

Experienced members are generous with advice. After games, players often review positions together — it's one of the best ways to improve. "You learn more from a loss than a win."

Kids Welcome

Young players are a valued part of our club. We've had great experiences with kids and families joining. Parents are welcome to play too or just watch.
